As vendors** have found out, you will have to accept the legislative play-act of, and participate in, ceremonies labeled as marriages. Also, at least one company executive* has discovered that you may well be forced from your job solely due to the fact that you have taken steps to protect marriage or have spoken out about its ruination. You can not be on TV, radio, or run a company
And here is another-
"A scheduled do-it-yourself show has been canceled by Home and Garden Television before its fall 2014 premiere after controversy erupted surrounding its hosts’ Christian viewpoints on issues like gay marriage and abortion.
Twin brothers Jason and David Benham were scheduled to appear on “Flip It Forward,” a renovation show that was set to feature them helping families make improvements to their homes.
But when some left-leaning media outlets began digging into their backgrounds and personal perspectives, everything changed................
It all started when Right Wing Watch, a blog that prides itself on “monitoring and exposing the activities of the right-wing movement,” initially published a scathing recap of the Benham brothers’ political activity Tuesday, including background on their father, Flip Benham, an outspoken Christian minister........
“At least one of the Benhams is not just a real estate dealer but also a dedicated right-wing activist in the mold of his father, Flip Benham, who has headed the abortion-clinic protest group Operation Save America ever since it split from the militant anti-choice group Operation Rescue,” [Below] wrote Right Wing Watch........
..........“We don’t realize that, okay, if 87 percent of Americans are Christians and yet we have abortion on demand, we have no-fault divorce, we have pornography and perversion, we have a homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation, we have adultery,” David Benham said in the radio interview after the prayer event. “We even have allowed demonic ideologies to take our universities and our public school systems while the church sits silent and just builds big churches.”........................
All of this information apparently led HGTV to cut ties with the brothers.
“HGTV is currently in process of reviewing all information about the Benhams and we will provide an update as soon as possible,” the network wrote on its Facebook page Tuesday evening after apparently learning about the controversy.
By Thursday the network had decided to completely cancel their arrangement with the Benhams, writing, “HGTV has decided not to move forward with the Benham Brothers’ series.”
Mob Forces Mozilla Co-founder From His Job for Protecting Marriage
"Brendan Eich, the co-founder of Mozilla, has stepped down as CEO over the controversy that erupted after his $1,000 pledge in support of California’s anti-gay marriage law Proposition 8 became widely known.
“Mozilla prides itself on being held to a different standard and, this past week, we didn’t live up to it. We know why people are hurt and angry, and they are right: it’s because we haven’t stayed true to ourselves,” read a statement from Mozilla. “We didn’t act like you’d expect Mozilla to act. We didn’t move fast enough to engage with people once the controversy started. We’re sorry. We must do better.”.............
“It’s clear that Brendan cannot lead Mozilla in this setting,” Mozilla executive chairwoman Mitchell Baker said in an interview Thursday morning, the technology website Recode reported. “The ability to lead — particularly for the CEO — is fundamental to the role and that is not possible here.”
Mr. Eich had insisted that his personal views did not affect his ability to lead the company, noting that Mozilla had been extremely friendly to the gay and lesbian community for years. Ms. Baker’s past experience with him seemed to validate his claims.
“That was shocking to me, because I never saw any kind of behavior or attitude from him that was not in line with Mozilla’s values of inclusiveness,” she said, Recode reported. “But I overestimated that experience.”
The Left and their radical allies will not brook any offer of dialogue or an attempt to reach a middle ground. No, what they want is everything. In this case, they demand the legal allowance (euphemistically called a "right" as if rights have their origin with governing bodies) for an institution that predates governments themselves and legal prohibitions of opting to refrain from providing a service for something that would effectively make one complicit in the act itself. In work environments, people have already been informed that failing to speak (Read keeping your mouth shut) with someone about their "marriage" as if it is authentic will be perceived as "disapproval"** - itself the new high crime of our era. Soon, churches will be subject to penalties from refusing to perform these ceremonies and the people will be prohibited from noting that these acts are not only immoral but in fact do not exist despite the exercise of legislative and judicial play-acting.
Even if the person does not contest the legitimacy of the ceremony but just wants to refrain from being a part of the act, he is in trouble.
Don't kid yourself - this and more is on the way."
When the Jews of Germany were sufficiently isolated and most people were too afraid to speak in protest, gangs were turned loose on the businesses owned by these loyal citizens.
Store windows were smashed in wholesale manner , Jews were harassed and beaten, and several thousand of them disappeared outright.. "The Night of Shattered Glass" prefigured the state of things to come for this minority.
When the State and society affirm and give their silent approval to hate, this is what happens.
The mob has been sent to ruin the business that the owners have worked so hard to build. If you do not acquiesce to the New Order, not only will your business be targeted for destruction, but so will anyone who does business with you. You will be financially ruined. This will be the pattern to be followed for all similar situations in the future.
As our contributor Scipio noted, if these measures to force people to abandon their principles and dignity do not work (And maybe even if they do), massive acts of vandalism will follow - and the police will likely do little or nothing is response. Those who stand for something in which they believe are the only truly bad people, and political leaders will pressure the cops to back off.
To make things worse, the regular, average citizen has been cowed into joining in with the massive boycott. [Including canceling previously-made cake orders] Weak and cowardly people have allowed themselves to be so intimidated by the possibility of being called homophobic that they too have stopped buying products from this store. I find more far more fault with these people than with the haters themselves - the latter can only succeed when everyone else is afraid to stand up for what is right.
Men used to be the protectors of society and culture. Now their honor is measured by how much they support the wholesale degradation of women in the abortion clinic and by their support for defiling the institution of marriage.
Women used to be the glue that held society together; no sane man would fail to be chastened by a woman's admonition. Now women have become the instruments of societal destruction. Today they use their ability to influence men to force their husbands to assist with the tearing down of society.
-and while we do all of this, we pat ourselves on the back for a job well done.
The Crime of our era is the failure to be complicit in the degradation of marriage
The Sin of our era is the refusal to mock God's work.
As noted [in previous posts] if vendors refuse to sell to gays simply due to the customer's sexual practices, then they clearly would be in violation of the law. What Washington State wants is to expand the scope of laws protecting people from discrimination to force anyone who operates a business to engage in actions that may be completely contrary to one's principles.
Nazism is not illegal in the US. If a member of a neo-Nazi Party walks into a store owned by a Jewish person, or anyone else for that matter, and orders a product or service custom-made for Hitler's birthday, then the vendor should certainly be within his rights to refuse to fill that order. A vendor cannot refuse service simply because of someones affiliations, but the law cannot rightly be held to force a vendor to participate in an event for that organization."
AZ Religious Conscience Bill Derided as Discrimination
Everything in life requires a degree of discrimination. I could approach a hundred nice ladies and ask them out and strike out each time. If I, however, was seen first by them while engaged in work, talking with friends, a recreational activity, etc., rest assured that maybe three of those hundred will at some point choose to initiate a conversation with me.
We discriminate in whom we choose to date and marry (very important for choosing will be the Mom/Dad of your children, what company or school to which we will apply, and the applicant whom is chosen to be hired or allowed to enroll. This continues with out choices of friends, books and movies, and house of worship (or lack thereof).
There is almost nothing in life that does not involve discrimination of some sort. What needs to be differentiated is what are illegal forms of discrimination and what does not incur criminal or civil penalties.
Refusing to sell a cake or other product to a man who is a known drinker of alcohol is a wrongful form of discrimination, even if the vendor is a tea-totaling Baptist. A cake that is specifically ordered to have a message that celebrates Oktoberfest? - In that case, the vendor has the right to follow his or her conscience and inform the customer that that order cannot be filled by that establishment.
That is what this Arizona bill is about - Conscience, that and nothing else.
It is not about refusing to serve someone because of race, sexual orientation, or anything else. It also has nothing to do with old and twisted interpretations of scripture (still held by some) that hold that people of different races should not marry. No honest interpretation of the Bible can twist the words of scripture to mean that marriages between person of the same gender are anything other than wrong.
People have a basic right to earn their living while avoiding acts that will require them to participate in an event that runs contrary to their faith. Anti-gunners will not sell services to shooting events, pro-life sign makers will not sell signs to Planned Parenthood, t-shirt vendors will not make shirts with printing that celebrates a duck hunt. At the bottom of this page are links to several older posts in which the implications of the prohibition of the mere exercise of conscience are treated in greater detail.
In the HuffPost article, we are asked to believe that this issue is about something other than it actually is. There is a war on the truth, and there also is a campaign to end the ability of people - not to think for themselves, but to think in the first place;
"The Republican-controlled Arizona state Senate voted along party lines Wednesday to pass Senate Bill 1062, a measure that would allow businesses to reject service to any customer based on the owners’ religious beliefs.
The bill reads:
"Exercise of religion" means the PRACTICE OR OBSERVANCE OF RELIGION, INCLUDING THE ability to act or refusal to act in a manner substantially motivated by a religious belief whether or not the exercise is compulsory or central to a larger system of religious belief.
Arizona Democrats, who argue the legislation is a way to legalize discrimination against LGBT individuals, sponsored eight amendments in an attempt to thwart the legislation -- all of which were rejected by Senate Republicans.
"SB 1062 permits discrimination under the guise of religious freedom," state Senate Democratic Leader Anna Tovar said in a statement Wednesday. "With the express consent of Republicans in this Legislature, many Arizonans will find themselves members of a separate and unequal class under this law because of their sexual orientation. This bill may also open the door to discriminate based on race, familial status, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability."
As testament to the bill’s mission, state Sen. Steve Yarbrough (R), one of three lawmakers sponsoring the bill, cited a 2013 New Mexico Supreme Court ruling that banned wedding photographers from refusing to shoot same-sex ceremonies, according to the Associated Press.
"This bill is not about allowing discrimination," Yarbrough said during a nearly two-hour debate on Wednesday. "This bill is about preventing discrimination against people who are clearly living out their faith.".......
Arizona’s SB 1062 now heads to the Republican-majority state House, where it is expected to pass."
