I never liked Mike Huckabee, but now I have a fairly intense disliking for the man. What he said about the Common Core and those who are trying to stop it is positively shameful.
The Common Core (* links at bottom) is designed with the intent of codifying the campaign to render the People ignorant, immoral and ashamed of their nation, and unable to compete with students from both private schools and foreign countries.
The Common Core is replete with Newspeak terms such as "College Ready" which means that students fed this diet of mediocrity may be able to gain acceptance to junior colleges and maybe a few four-year state colleges - other institutions are for the children of the elite.
It was Huckabee who, as Governor of Arkansas, infamously pardoned a convict largely because the latter had "found Jesus", thus joining the governor in the Evangelical ranks. The pardoned convict later went on to be suspected of molesting children and was killed in a shootout with police after he reportedly killed four cops. One would think that Huckabee would be sufficiently ashamed of this to drop out of public life, but instead he unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for president.
I don't know if money is involved in this advocacy for the Common Core or if he has some other insidious motivation:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jun/5/huckabee-urges-states-back-common-core/
"As conservative opposition to the national K-12 education standards known as Common Core continues to grow, a leading figure in the Republican Party is lending his voice in support of the system.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who ran for his party’s presidential nomination in 2008, penned a letter Tuesday to lawmakers in Oklahoma, urging them to stick by the standards even as Michigan, Indiana and other states have backed away from them.
“It’s disturbing to me there have been criticisms of these standards directed by other conservatives,” he said. “I’ve heard the argument these standards ‘threaten local control’ of what’s being taught in Oklahoma classrooms. Speaking from one conservative to another, let me assure you this simply is not true … They’re not something to be afraid of; indeed they are something to embrace.”..........................
The standards have come under increasing fire from conservatives who see them as a de facto federal takeover of education. While the Obama administration didn’t have a hand in writing Common Core, it has pushed states to adopt the standards by tying its ” Race to the Top’ grant money and other perks to their implementation....................
The standards were written through a joint effort of the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers. Many governors from both sides of the aisle, including Mr. Huckabee, Mr. Snyder and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, continue to be among their most fervent supporters."

Not content with making stupid and pseudo-intellectually prideful statements concerning just about anything(** links at bottom), Pope Francis has now taken to purposefully mis-characterizing the reasons why many Catholics seek a return to the older Catholic mass:
In the visit, as it usually happens in such cases, other than the formal address, the Pope heard the questions and comments of the bishops. Archbishop Jan Graubner, of Olomouc, told the Czech section of Vatican Radio what the Pope told him:
[Abp. Jan Graubner speaks:] When we were discussing those who are fond of the ancient liturgy and wish to return to it, it was evident that the Pope speaks with great affection, attention, and sensitivity for all in order not to hurt anyone. However, he made a quite strong statement when he said that he understands when the old generation returns to what it experienced, but that he cannot understand the younger generation wishing to return to it. "When I search more thoroughly - the Pope said - I find that it is rather a kind of fashion [in Czech: 'móda', Italian 'moda']. And if it is a fashion, therefore it is a matter that does not need that much attention. It is just necessary to show some patience and kindness to people who are addicted to a certain fashion. But I consider greatly important to go deep into things, because if we do not go deep, no liturgical form, this or that one, can save us."........"
Catholics who obediently accepted the changes of the Second Vatican Council, but have become increasingly concerned with the gross abuses of the liturgy and the tearing of the Church from her Western roots, are now labeled by the Pontiff as being - among other things, "addicted to fashion". He also engages in a patently false representation of their desires. His affectation of being under the impression that some young people naively believe the mere observance of religious forms can lead to salvation is nothing short of a lie. Pope Francis is too educated to believe any such thing and seeks only to portray (not radical) traditional Catholics as ignorant rubes.
This pope is a Leftist at heart and is no friend of Christianity.
