The link has a video of a white female who has jumped on the "blame whitey" bandwagon and utters meaningless claims that whites are born to privilege in the US. She must mean getting shut out of colleges,  missing out on jobs due to "diversity" requirements, losing promotions as a result of lawsuits against Civil Service examinations, being ineligible for dozens of grants and scholarships due to one's birth, subjection to harassment and lose of one's occupation for uttering a racial slur decades ago while "cracker" is kosher, being treated like a criminal for defending oneself - you get the picture:

There are two completely different countries in the US. On one side is a loose and informal coalition of whites not overwhelmed by "white guilt",  Blacks who do not accept the lot allotted to them by the Left, Christians and Jews who have not abandoned the faith of their Fathers, non-religious Americans who nevertheless recognize the contributions of faith to our nation, those who are fed up with working to pay for the livelihood of multiple generations of others, those who watch with dismay the culture of abortion, hooking up, and the destruction of the family and marriage, and those who want the schools to teach people to be able to read, etc.

One the other side is everyone else. I say that we should let them have their half.

It's a shame when we have to be happy that "small" fires, smashed police cars and windows, burned American flags, and some graffiti is all that we have seen.

As the opinion piece in the link below notes, this case should in no way have gone to trial. The "Stand your ground" law clearly had nothing to do with the shooting. When someone is being held down or otherwise being made unable to to leave , he or she is not drawing a line in the sand. The Left detests laws that recognize one's inherent right to engage in acts of self-preservation. While most (But by no means all) will grudgingly admit that force may be used when it can later be demonstrated that the victim was faced with an immediate threat and left with no other option, they will insist the the victim must be able to provide an overwhelming amount of proof that this was the case - no mean feat if the event was not recorded on camera.

At any rate, that is one of the main reasons why they labored with such passion to conflate the confrontation and shooting with Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law (The other being sensationalizing white-on-black violence and covering up the converse). They want these laws gone, and they will scrape the bottom of the barrel to find instances to cite in support of overturning or repealing of laws that give people some hope that, if they take steps to protect themselves, they at least have a chance of employing an affirmative defense*.

Leftists would certainly prefer that our laws are more in line with those of nations that were not founded by free peoples. About ten years ago, I read an article about two criminal trials (One may have been a pre-trial hearing) in the Republic of Korea (South Korea) that were going on at the same time but in different courtrooms. One was for a man who was being charged with attempted rape. The other trial or hearing was for the victim; she was being charged for biting off a piece of her assailant's ear (Thus successfully ending the assault) during the attack. Mind you, the average American or Western European would applaud that woman for fighting back with such determination and ferocity. In our culture (Particularly in US laws), rape is considered a crime for which Deadly Force can be utilized to prevent or stop the crime from being perpetrated. Biting off a piece of an ear, although it may be argued by some to be less than "serious bodily harm", will hardly result in death unless the one who is bitten developed a major infection from the wound, yet here the victim was, in court-

As far as I am concerned that woman was, to use and old US phrase (Sorry ladies for the unintentional  property-like connotations), "marriage material". She is the kind of woman I would want to raise my daughter. In Korea, though, one is legally required (Never got the outcome of the trial and the laws may have changed since then) to use only a minimal amount of force to stop a (probably heavier, stronger, and more aggressive) man from raping her.

The Left wants people to be fearful of anyone who approaches in a manner that sends up "red flags" or actually assaults them, and of possible prosecution in the event that they do in fact  take decisive action.

From the outset, it was readily apparent that the prosecution had no case. That picture never changed during the rest of the trial.

We have a catastrophic societal problem on our hands; an Attorney General's Office that does the bidding of the media and the mob, a mob (Consisting of all ethnic groups) that will never admit that Zimmerman did not murder Martin despite being privy to more information than even the jurors received, and a President who, not content with having made viciously accusatory remarks following the actual shooting, tells people to "honor" a young man who, by all accounts, was beating someone up in the moments before he was shot and killed (And also falsely referring to Zimmerman's act as one of "gun violence"):

The Chief of Police of the City of Sanford was fired for refusing to be bullied into charging Zimmerman. I hope that he sues for damages, reinstatement, and back pay.

Post-Trial Fallout

I dread what I believe will happen during the next few weeks or more.

We live in nation in which far too many people could have witnessed the confrontation and shooting themselves and would still insist that George Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin. The evidence and the verdict mean nothing to people who live in a world of hate and lies and cling to a pathetic culture of victimization.

My prayers are for the protection of all innocents.

Zimmerman Trial - Journalists Going All-out

Immediately following the death of Trayvon Martin, the media went straight into fifth gear. The enormous problem of black-on-white crime in the US? (Or even  black-on-black) - Forget all of that because the media gets no mileage out of reports that do not attack the "White Establishment" or problems of violence in black communities. What they look for are accounts of a black being killed by a white person. The particulars of the case are of no concern to them. Like the old commercial in which the hokey transmission mechanic is holding a large hammer and says to the customer "Don't worry, we'll make it fit", they will do their all to make the black person the victim each time.

Remember when James Byrd was dragged to death by whites behind a truck? The account still brings up feelings of rage for me. That man was treated savagely and I wished (Still do) that I could get my hands on the pigs that committed the murder. The media reported on this for months, and it is still is treated as some sort of crime that is common in our society.

Now, does anyone remember the Wichita Horror? I'll bet that most do not, and for one reason -

When the media found out the name of the shooter of Trayvon Martin, they were jubilant. The media had a perfect white guy, George Zimmeran. The German last name was a perfect fit for a sensationalized story to incite emotional and violent reactions in American blacks, but something quickly became known that threatened to ruin the media party:

Mr. Zimmerman was half-Hispanic, and he looked a hell of a lot more like an Hispanic than a guy in a photo of Wehrmacht troops.

They quickly and with a coordination of military precision reformed and came up with a new designation - "white Hispanic". This was a new development as the media had never employed any such term previously.

When whites were subsequently attacked with accompanying shouts of "This is for Trayvon", the media ignored or explained away these accounts as unreliable. Several links to these attacks can be found in the link below:

The Media instead ran with stories on "hoodies", skittles and iced tea, gated communities, profiling, and flooded the news reports with photos of a twelve year-old kid with an innocent smile. Trayvon Martin was 17 when he was killed, and the press left out any information about what kind of person he was five years after the youth football photo. No less than two news outlets ran maliciously edited versions of Zimmerman's calls to police dispatchers in order that the public would hear what sounded like a guy following a kid simply because he was black.

Now that the testimony and other evidence has been presented, we have little reason to believe that the cops were wrong in initially refraining from charging Zimmerman. The media, though, is not only steadfastly refusing to back down on the version that they shamefully fed us last year, they are now pointing fingers at the cops for preparing for possible violence that was enthusiastically fueled by the media in the first place. The media is the enemy of the people. Failing to convince us with their lies, they now turn to blaming others for preparing to deal with any possible violence. Of course the cops would also be blamed by the same media if they didn't prepare and violence did ensue.

We can also be certain that the media does not care what happens in cases in which police preparation will not help individuals from being attacked.

Antisemitism is very much alive in the West. It most common manifestation is that of anti-Zionism. When we hear Leftists and Leftist-inspired  people in the West use the word Jew as a pejorative, the motivations for such cruel taunts will almost always be the existence of the Jewish State.

Many European "intellectuals", both the indigenous types and Jews, embraced Socialism as the way of the future. Those who did so did not reflect the attitudes of their coreligionists or fellow citizens in any way, but the label stuck with the Jews. Just as some in our society equate the global banking interests solely with the Jewish Rothschilds, too many in the West do the same with Marxism. I have read numerous articles and posts from individuals who are rightly concerned with the advance of the Western variant of Socialism that place the blame for this tragic phenomena squarely at the feet of the Jewish people and particularly with Israel.

The problem with this supposition is simple - The Left has long had an utter revulsion at the very thought of a Jewish State and seeks to destroy it, both from without and within; therefore, if one seeks to stop the Left, he had better stop blaming Israel or the Jews.

The survival of the State of Israel has been a thorn in the side of the Left from the beginning. Many early Zionists were Socialist, but they did not create a Socialist state. Once the Left realized what had actually occurred - the creation of a modern state that with the purpose of having an ethnically, religiously, and culturally identifiable people, they dropped any support for the new nation like a hot potato. Israel quickly found herself on her own - Czechoslovakia was one of the few nations that provided any real support to the fledgling nation as it fought to avoid being killed in utero .

A step back is necessary to change one's opinion. Marxism, like Islam, is pan-national in nature. It allows for no peoples, groups, or nations to remain separate from the International Communist or Socialist world order. Any Socialist party that employs the name of the nation in which it operates is only doing so to mask its intentions - Socialists (Excepting a precious few like George Orwell) want sovereign nations gone in toto. As is patently apparent in their relentless campaigns to force multiple generations into lives of functional illiteracy, denigrate all admirable aspects of a Western and Jewish history and culture (And grossly magnify the faults), deny any evidence of ethnic ancestry of peoples (In Europe, you have to look really hard to find an honest assessment of genetic data for that region), liquidate the family as a concept, and push any belief in Judaism or Christianity into the shadows, the Left wants any sense of identity excised completely.

Now that we have taken that back-step, let's look at the question:

If the Left wants to erase all national borders, destroy the family, and eliminate all senses of historical,  religious, cultural and ethnic identity, why would Israel want any part of that? Virtually everything for which the Left stands exists in compete contrast with the very reason for the State of Israel. If the Left wins out - there will be no Israel.

The Coptic Patriarch, Pope Tawadros II, has encouraged the faithful of Egypt to change direction and get involved in the political process. The previous Pope, Shenouda, had a policy that essentially recommended a strategy of lying low to avoid drawing the ire of Egyptian Muslims. I can't blame the current Pope for making this risky move; staying in the sidelines was perceived as an act of weakness. Kidnappings, rapes, torched homes and businesses, and murders were commonplace in Egypt even before Mubarak was forced out of office, and things got worse once the Muslim Brotherhood started stretching their political legs.

This is how Christians live their lives in Muslim-majority countries and regions. Either way, they know that the mob may attack for any given reason, real or imagined. 

Congress moved to hold up funding for the stepped-up support that the Obama administration plans to give to the Syrian rebels. They cited the fact that our weapons and money will no doubt go to Al-Qaeda types. I don't know if that is truly why they made this move or if it is because they know what the same rebels are doing to Christians; they may simply be manufacturing an excuse to avoid any mention of the unpleasant reality. The press would have a field day if US Representatives expressed any concern with how Christians are being  treated in the Near and Middle East and few are willing to take a stand.

Obama, always says that he "can't wait for Congress to act". He is showing the same attitude now. Basically, he just does what he wants:

Florida Police Preparing for Fallout of a Zimmeran Not Guilty Verdict

Our society has come to the point that police need to prepare to deal with the response of the mob in the event that some don't get the verdict that they want.

We have devolved into a third world country.

"Sheriffs in several Florida counties have joined forces to plot a course of action in case George Zimmerman’s murder trial wraps [up] with a not-guilty verdict and outraged members of the public start to riot.

The Broward County sheriff's office released a video asking the public not to riot, but also explaining that they’ve reached out to other law enforcement agencies for contingency plans in case violence ensues. 

“[We are] working closely with the Sanford Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies [to coordinate] a response plan in anticipation of the verdict,” the sheriff's office said in a statement reported by Breitbart........

Our law enforcement official feel the need to ask "community organizers" and such to convince their followers from rioting and attacking whites and non-black Hispanics.*

One sheriff said it’s not a given that riots will be the result of a not-guilty finding. But the department is keeping lines of communication open with “community leaders, civic activists, members of the clergy, as well as local, state and federal agencies.”

The trial in Seminole County has grabbed the attention of the nation, and activists in support of the 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, shot and killed in the February 2012 incident, have rallied outside the courthouse.

The second little girl extolls the notion that Jerusalem belongs to the Muslims, not to Israel for which it is its capital city. She says to Jews and Israel:

And Jerusalem, you who are filth, is clean and pure.'..........."

Jew-hatred is nothing new to Islam; the Koran and Haddiths both have plenty of vicious references to Jews. I grew up with the story about the Koran referring to Jews as the "People of the Book". Then I actually read the Koran and noticed that each and every time that phrase is used, it is to demean the Jews and blame them for failing to accept Mohammed as a prophet or a Medieval-type accusation of  group guilt for doing violence to Old Testament prophets. Note that Emmett Scott, in Mohammed and Charlemagne Revisited, make incredibly strong augments that Jew-hatred in Medieval Europe was a direct result of the Jew-hatred that was commonplace in Islam and that this  filtered into the West from increasing contacts with Muslim states such as those in Spain and Portugal.

Muslim have for a long time made every effort to co-opt all of the Old Testament prophets, patriarchs, and kings (Boy they have some doozies of stories about Solomon). One of their favorite targets are places and buildings or sites that are associated with Hebrew/Jewish history. Islam seems to create such a deep hatred of Jews that many Muslims feel the need to make every patriarchal/Hebrew/Jewish tomb, archaeological find, or extant building into a Muslim work. That is why the Israeli government has actually kept major finds secret; making them known to the public will result in cries of protest from Muslims that "their" sites are being taken away from them.

It's a classic case of projection - blame the other side for what you do on a regular basis.

Even the claim for Jerusalem being a sacred place for Islam was a later addition to Muslim lore (No mention in the Koran*), but that has not stopped Muslims from expressing feigned outrage on important digs such as that if the foundation of the Temple built under Herod's reign. Muslims built the Al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock Mosques where they did to take that location away from Jews and to create a false sense of legitimacy, and it's the Jews that get blamed for wanting to research their past. The probability mob violence in response to an announcement of an important find  is so great that Israelis don't even know what to do when they have one on their hands:

Muslims make every argument possible to cancel the Jews out of the Israel/Jerusalem picture. We get told that all the ancient Hebrews and patriarchs were Arabs or at least Muslims, that the Jews strayed from the truth and thus are to be ruled by the descendants of the conquering Muslims, and old Yasser Arafat came up with a new one - that the Palestinians are actually the descendants of the Canaanites. By this claim, the Palestinians are no longer Arabs but the people that got kicked out of what was to become Israel by the Hebrews.

The last one leaves us with all kinds of problems. What were left of Canaanites most likely eventually wound up with the Phoenicians or Syrians (Not Arabs) or were just absorbed by the (Two thousand years later) Arab invasions after the death of Mohammed. Yasser wanted Palestinians to be Arabs unless it was of more use to be something other than Arabs. This also flies in the face of self-loathing Leftist Israeli Academics who labor without pause to feed Israelis a whole new opiate - that the Hebrews never came out of Egypt in the fist place.

Israel May End Orthodox Exemptions

It stipulates that ultra-Orthodox Jewish men must either join the army or perform civilian service, and if passed it will be implemented over the next four years.

The new law seeks to amend the current situation in which ultra-Orthodox men receive exemptions if they are studying in religious seminaries......."

He also raped her and then repudiated her. The same trend was repeated for 15 days, and Mariam was raped by 15 different men. This psychologically destabilized her and made her insane. Mariam, became mentally unstable and was eventually killed.

"These atrocities are not told by any International Commission" say to Fides two Greek-Catholic priests, Fr. Issam and Fr. Elias who have just returned to town. The two are collecting the cry's and complaints of many families. "Who will do something to protect civilians, the most vulnerable?" they ask. I am torn between boiling over in rage and despairing that too few will speak out to put a stop to what is happening to Christians in the Near and Middle East. Christian and Alawite (Druze and Shiite) girls live in in a state of effective imprisonment in their own country. The latter (Now apparently also including Christians) specifically have been subjected to a fatwa, one which I noted in a previous post*, that makes non-Muslim women and girls fair game for the rapist thugs that are the recipients of US military aid.

I am having a hard time findings words - we live our lives in a state of mind-boggling apathy. A slaughter of innocent children in Connecticut rightly causes anguish. In response, we ignore the immense logistical obstacles involved with outlawing and confiscating the millions of magazine fed firearms and call for the civil arm to make laws that would ensure that "this will never happen again". We have convinced ourselves that we enjoy some type of birthright to be completely free of horrifically violent acts.

In Syria, 23 dead or raped non-Sunni Muslim innocents is business as usual, yet we sit on our hands and do nothing; not a call to our congressmen, not a rally in protest, not even an electronic petition has made it to my email - all this while the money that we contribute to the government coffers gets used to help the animals, who murder, rape, and kidnap Christians and other non-Sunnis. I don't even hear or read any reports that UNESCO is decrying the destruction of Christian churches in Syria. 

Part of my salary goes to supporting those who gang-rape innocents in Syria. 

I am sick to my stomach. If anyone knows how to start a good online petition, I will give my all to distribute it far and wide. Our government needs to be told that the US must stop giving any aid whatsoever to the Syrian rebels. We need to be done with trying to find "nice" rebels - the pigs always gain ascendancy in these vacuums of power and push out the "moderates". We also need to stop pretending to believe that Assad has to go - non-Sunnis were immeasurably safer and better-off before when his regime was in control of the entire country. The whole idea of toppling these autocrats was a bold-faced lie from the start.

Turkey's Erdogan Fearful of Morsi Ouster

Although Mohammed Morsi did take steps to consolidate control of the Egyptian army - he forced a few senior commanders out, he apparently did not go far enough.

For moderate Egyptians, Copts, the Israelis, and world in general, his failure to sack enough generals and replace them with a functional commissariat is a stroke of good fortune.

It also leaves Turkey's Islamist Prime Minster Erdogan hoping that his past moves have been sufficient to prevent the same thing from happening to him. He, however, may be OK.

Ergdogan has been busy purging the Turkish military since he came to power in 2002. I believe that it was 2007 when he had several senior commanders charged with plotting a coup. Turkey's military, a body steeped in the secular and conservative outlook of Kemal Ataturk, had deposed previous governments, and Erdogan was not about to risk having history repeat itself.

I personally strongly prefer that  the military of any country allow the people to make at least the first real moves to contest the destruction of their nation. Having the military take the first step sets an ugly precedent. Sulla's march into Rome was a portent of the far worse violence that would come to the Republic. Washington, no doubt well-read in Roman history, move decisively to head off the Newburg Conspiracy even though he knew that the Congress would not be able to appropriately compensate the veterans. In the case in which the destruction is being committed by elected officials that have the support of a dangerous majority though, there may unfortunately be no other viable option.

 Hugo Chavez, being a bizarre combination of true dolt and evil genius, knew that he had to get the Venezuelan military in line with his ideology and doing so was probably his only non-electoral success. Obama has been just as careful. He has promoted those who have agreed to acquiesce to the gutting of the US military and and forced any recalcitrant general and admirals out.

The twin Achilles heels of democracies are ideology and dependence. If the people can be subjected to  financial dependence on the government, encouraged to adopt an dysfunctional ideology (Dressed up as being for the benefit of the people), or a combination of the two, the result can be a long night of elected governments that do far more harm than good. In the case of Turkey, a resurgence of Islam (A true socio-political ideology as much as it is a religion) among the people served to set that nation on a dangerous path.

For example, there have been calls for the restoration  of an Islamic (Neo-Ottoman) world lead by Turkey and the return of the once- Byzantine Basilica Hagia Sophia to Mosque status.

Time will tell of Erdogan did a through enough job of making a fully-compliant Turkish military.

Thoughts on Independence Day

The City of Rehoboth Beach, ironically founded by Methodists as a Christian-oriented resort town, found a way to save face. It is difficult for us to put ourselves in the shoes of those who argued for Independence from Great Britain. For the vast majority of American colonists, they saw their struggle as one for their rights as subjects of the Crown. Even many of those who felt that the ultimate outcome would have to be a separation had no choice but to keep their thoughts to themselves; only sharing their thoughts with the utmost caution lest they became known to other delegates to the Continental Congress. If the intentions of the Independence-minded were no longer a secret, the bulk of the delegates to the Congress would likely have let the New England colonies - particularly Massachusetts, deal with the developing hostilities by themselves.

Conservative sentimentality is effective at clouding an individual's perceptions. Like most of the colonists and their respective delegates, we look about and see a United States that appears on the surface to the the same country that was founded in 1776, organized effectively by 1789, and by the crucible of our Civil War set on a path that would allow us to fully realize Equality. I of course speak of equality as that of a people equally free before the Law and not that type which has been used by the Left to change the meaning of the term.

It is not easy to look deeper, looking at the substance of our nation rather than its accidents (To use Aristotelian terms for matter), and admit that we no longer live in a nation that would be remotely recognizable to our Founders or later leaders such as Lincoln.

Something happened to the American psyche. I would see it as the result of a long process by which we lost our concept of culture, our history, and our destiny. We are the heirs of a long tradition of taking risks in order to ensure that those who follow us will not have to fight, but the outlook now is one of preserving what you can for yourself or your immediate family. We have become like the Romans at the end of the Republic; fearing that, if we buck the trends, we will be financially ruined and unable to claw our way back into a state of reasonable material security.

Our mindset stands in complete contrast to the societies that exemplify the best of Western Culture. The struggle to keep the Poleis of Greece free of submersion into Persian despotism, the expulsion of the Tarquins by the Romans and the latter's stubborn 14-year contest with a foreign army on Italian soil, the Germans under Herman doing what the Gauls could not - unite and destroy three Romans legions,  Alfred the Great leading the only free Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Wessex against the Danes, the savage struggle of  the Christian Kingdoms of Spain and Portugal as they won back their lands and freed their people from the cruel and rapacious Muslim robber-states, the multiple defenses of Vienna against the Ottomans, the bitterly-fought war fought in salt-marshes that brought Independence from the Spanish Hapsburg to the Netherlands, and the move of British colonists to declare a separation from the nation that had the greatest force-projection of its time are as foreign to many of us as the societies that built the ancient cities of Mesoamaerica.

The issues of the 1760's-70's seem laughable when seen in the light of what we take for granted. Restrictions on settling West of the Appalachians, trade laws that benefited companies that amounted to foreign corporations, and some taxes that were hardly burdensome compared to what we see today -

They don't look like much in the rear-view mirror.

This was long before Wikard v. Filburn, Kelo v. New London, and a host of other decisions of our Supreme Court that was viewed by many early on as a final bastion of our liberties. The State today has taken it upon itself to enslave the masses with welfare and the rest with paying for the ruined lives, force children into lives of functional illiteracy with sight-word programs, order religious bodies to pay for abortions and abortifacients, intrude on our privacy on all sorts of levels, bankrupt the nation and its citizens with immeasurable spending and borrowing, brainwash our children to detest the culture that bred them and to turn them into compliant socialists, involve us in never-ending wars that drain us of men and money and (As the Spartans noted) wind up teaching others how we fight and by extension how to beat us, the frightening portent of claiming that it has the authority to create new styles of marriage with all the logical conclusions that "governmental-derived rights" imply .

It was also before our society opted to encourage making our men into androgynous creatures (And pretending that it is as easy for women to be killers as it is for guys), shaking our fist at God by refusing to admit his very existence, telling young boys to treat girls as playthings and girls to like it that way, to sensationalize the death of an individual from one ethnic group while embarking on a systematic campaign to hide an enormous crime problem in which other ethnic groups are regularly targeted,.........

It is time that we stepped back and took an honest assessment of where we are, where we are going, and what we need to do.

Our nation was started by people who left the homes of their forefathers, not only to have better opportunities, but to build a nation, one that was "...conceived in Liberty". It was founded by people who risked everything to make it better for future generations. Its greatest sin was wiped away only by a painful war.

Today, we may well have to consider another separation to restore that for which so much was sacrificed. We can't keep putting out fires.

We can only change our outlook if we recall the past struggles that made our Independence something that was within reach of  the imagination of the Founders. Sacrificing for the future is not easy nor is it always a pleasant thought.

Concerning the top links, I can think of few instances that do not prove any more clearly that we have arrived at the "Orwellian twilight of the West" (credit for quote - McEvedy).

First off, we need to drop the whole "nanny state" label for what is going on; the actions NYC's Bloomberg and what we see here have nothing to do with being overprotective. What we are experiencing is the full centralized control of the State. It is designed to turn the individual into an unthinking but cowering  mammalian form of insect.

It started out with the horror of horrors for the Leftist-minded; a kid got hit by his father. I don't know if it was a slap or if any injury occurred, but rest assured that the State-cultivated lie that hitting a kid is never anything but wrong was accepted as dogma by the official that investigated the report.

There followed something out of a movie about a dystopian future that would seem so ridiculous that it - in modern cinematic parlance, would go "straight to DVD". The kids were put into foster care because the parents and children were too fat; their weight was deemed to be a form of child abuse. The family was not split up, though. They were housed together in a some sort of government housing in which they and their lifestyle were supervised by the righteous agents of the state.

I had to look up the term "stone" as used in the article for the amount of weight that the parents stated that they did lose while attempting to claw their way out of this hell-hole. I had seen it a few times but I am ashamed to admit that I never checked for details until today. What I got was that a stone translates to fourteen pounds. The parents did make an effort to slim down, and the photo at the top of  the article in The Sun shows a family that is, although far from physically fit, certainly not even remotely close to some of the obese adults and children that we see in the US. Over here, we read reports of walls being cut out of homes (I am not joking) to extract immensely obese individuals from their rooms that their size prevented them from leaving for years.

Needless to say, the efforts of the parents produced results that were not sufficient for the case workers, so the state moved to put the younger children up for adoption. I could no find any more recent articles, so I can only wonder if the parents were able to get their kids back or if they had to say goodbye until the victims of the state reached adulthood.

Catholic Bishop Prohibits Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch From Speaking

I'll leave this one very short-

Robert Spencer runs Jihad Watch a blog with a reputation for unerring accuracy about the teachings and practices of Islam. He is also an accomplished author, speaker, and trainer.

As a consequence of his work, he has been slandered and vilified by a rogue's gallery of Leftists and Muslims commentators. Muslim revisionist Reza Aslan makes a habit of attacking and misrepresenting Mr. Spencer, and the Huffington Post recently allowed the unapologetic liar Nathan Lean an entire column worth of false accusations about him. The Huff Post also did not allow any response from Spencer in his defense.

The most disturbing developments in the last few months have both come from Catholic Bishops. After being dis-invited from speaking at a men's conference (Due to the factual content of his work)  in Connecticut last March, Mr. Spencer  has now been prohibited from speaking at a conference in Sacramento, California.

Catholic Bishops may tell themselves that Syrian Christians will no longer be subjected to beheadings if we promise to stop speaking truthfully about Islam, but those who have read the Koran and other Islamic sources tend to believe otherwise.

I am a devout Catholic and I hold my leaders accountable for their actions.

Pastor To Hold Church Service in Defiance of of City

It looks to me as if either the City of Rehoboth Beach, Delware, or the City Manager himself committed a serious overreach of authority.

"A church pastor in Delaware plans to conduct an Independence Day service “in defiance of tyranny” on Rehoboth Beach after the city denied him a permit to do so.

Upon asking in writing for a permit to hold a beach service in Rehoboth, the pastor, Robert Dekker of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lewes, Del., received this reply from the city manager:

“I am so sorry to inform you that I cannot grant your request to have church services on the public beach in Rehoboth. I cannot mix Church and State. I trust you understand. Wishing you the very best.”

In response, Mr. Dekker says he will preach a sermon at the beach on July 4 at 9:30 a.m., titled “Line in the Sand,” in defiance of tyranny, a flier for the event reads.

“Regardless of your faith, all people should be highly concerned over this civil rights violation,” New Covenant Presbyterian Church said in a statement."
I like the choice of "Line in the sand" for Pastor Dekker's bold move, it works perfectly well, both for forcing the city to act or to allow the service and due to the fact that the service will be held at the beach.

I don't know for certain what what was behind this refusal to allow a church service on public property. I am not aware of any court ruling that allows public officials to ban religious groups from public assemblies, but I do have a suspicion for a motive:

There you have it - in our Orwellian world, the mere presence of  a substantial amount of members of the gay community is enough to ban any church-related events. Rehoboth Beach has long been a place where gays can travel and find others of their persuasion  The city takes in a lot of revenue from the money that the vacationers spend while down there (For people from New jersey, we always speak of being "down at the shore" regardless of what direction we trailed to get there). They don't want to lose their 'Gay Friendly" label, so censorship must be implemented.

Rehoboth Beach has entered a quagmire.

The city now has to decide whether or not to move against Pastor Dekker. If the Pastor is successful in getting an appreciable number of attendees, the cops are going to have to make a lot of arrests. Now that the city has cast its lot and lost - they probably did not expect Dekker to call their bluff, the more radical members of the gay movement will likely descend on Rehoboth Beach on July 4th to intimidate or assault those who attend the church service.

This will be interesting.
